Medvert uses a number of security features to prevent
unauthorized access to your medical advertisements and advertisement billing information.
These features are discussed in detail in the following sections:
Confidentiality
Web Browser Requirements
Cookies
Login Name
Password
Confidentiality of Billing Information
Billing information is not given to any third parties except as a result of due process of law.
Medvert does not sell customers' billing information to third parties -- our revenues are derived from providing cost-effective medical advertising while maintaining the confidentiality of billing information.
Your advertisement billing information (i.e. the name, postal address, phone number or e-mail address used to contact a customer) is not displayed publicly with your advertisements. Customers must use a valid login name and password to access pages which contain their billing information.
Advertisement billing information* stored in the database is (AES) encrypted for additional security.
Credit cardholder data (i.e. the credit card account number, expiry date and card security code) used in the process of credit card payments for advertisements is not sent to medvert.com when this method of payment is used by customers. This information is sent directly to the payment processing server (Worldline® Inc.) for use by the credit card issuers; this data is neither seen nor stored by Medvert.
For those customers using PGP (Pretty Good Privacy®), GnuPG, or similar encryption programs for their e-mail communications, Medvert provides a public key; an S/MIME (Sectigo®) email public key encryption certificate is also available upon request.
All form input data (eg. advertisement information, login_name and password) is sent to medvert.com using strong encryption (SSL/TLS).
Web Browser Requirements
For optimal display of web pages from medvert.com, you should use a recent version of your favourite web browser e.g. Microsoft Edge 99, Firefox 98, Google Chrome 100, IOS 15 Safari or later versions of these browsers.
Please note that Google maps are no longer supported in Internet Explorer (including IE 11).
Although not required for all sections of this site, it is helpful if you have JavaScript activated in your web browser. The use of JavaScript will allow rapid detection of errors that you might make when filling out an advertisement form. Most web browsers have JavaScript enabled by default.
However, even without enabling JavaScript, advertisement form errors will be detected -- it will simply take somewhat longer (depending on your Internet connection speed) for the actual error messages to be displayed in your browser.
Please note that JavaScript must be enabled in your browser when using the Purchase Ad section.
Cookies
Cookies are required to facilitate the processing of various advertisement forms i.e. advertisement creation, renewal, modification, listing, cancellation and payment; these cookies are also used to prevent unauthorized users from viewing private data (by forcing a browser page refresh) after a legitimate user has completed some action e.g. advertisement renewal or payment.
The cookies used are "secure" i.e. transmitted securely using SSL/TLS, http-only (not accessible by Javascript) to prevent their use in cross-site scripting attacks, and single site only i.e. transmitted to and received by www.medvert.com only; they are not third-party type "tracking cookies". They are stored in your browser for a maximum of sixty minutes (some as little as 15 minutes) and can be manually removed from your browser at any time.
Login Name
Your login name is used (in conjunction with your password) to allow you to perform various operations on your advertisements such as renewal and cancellation.
A valid e-mail address must be used as a login name.
A login name not associated with any paid or unpaid advertisements is automatically removed from the server after one year.
Password
Your password is the secret identifier used in conjunction with your login name. Unlike your login name, your password should be kept secret in order to prevent unauthorized access to the password-protected sections of medvert.com.
If you suspect that the secrecy of your password has been compromised or you have forgotten your password, go to the Change Your Password page and create a new password.
The following suggestions apply to the creation of new or replacement passwords:
- Your password must be 8-30 characters in length.
- The characters can be upper- or lowercase letters, numbers or special characters (e.g. #). Password are case-sensitive i.e. "Michael99" and "michael99" are considered different words because of the different cases of the first letter of the name.
- Your password should have at least two alphabetic characters and at least one digit (0-9) or special character.
- Don't use your login name with the letters reversed or shifted e.g. if your login name is "joseph71" don't use "17hpesoj" or "jose17ph".
- Avoid easily guessed passwords, such as your own name, the names of family members, your address or automobile license plate number.
- Avoid words or names that exist in a dictionary or trivial modifications of dictionary words e.g. "golfball" changed to "g0lfball".
- Use easily remembered "nonsense" words e.g. "10d_Uhn!" (tendon!).
- A new password should differ from your old one by at least three characters.
